On Friday 15 March 2019, the Boroondara Cricket Club held its 2018/2019 Season Awards Evening at which the Junior Section teams received team awards (batting, bowling and coach’s awards) and four special awards were presented.
One such award was the Best Junior Clubman award (also known as the Morris Family Award). This award is named in honour and recognition of the outstanding contributions of Mark Morris, his wife Pauline and their son Christopher to the Junior section of our Club through their tireless work over 14 seasons when the Juniors Section of the Club commenced in 1999/2000. Mark and Christopher were coaches and Mark was also the Junior Co-Ordinator (now Junior Manager) over those 14 seasons.
The Best Junior Clubman is an award presented to any Junior player ( boy or girl ) of any level or playing ability which recognises their contributions to the Club over the season beyond playing cricket eg coaching, assisting at training, assisting at social events etc. The nominees for the Best Junior Clubman this season were Daniel Gambell, Cam Serpell and Patrick Forrest.
The Best Junior Clubman for season 2018/2019 was awarded to Daniel Gambell.
Daniel has been playing with the Cobras since 2008/2009 and this season Daniel has taken on coaching duties of some of the junior players at the Club. He’s been a terrific coach advising and assisting the younger players to learn and develop their games and Club President, Michael Bingley, described Daniel as being a great young man to have around the Club and a worthy recipient of the Best Junior Clubman award for season 2018/2019. His Mum & Dad were very proud of Daniel for winning this prestigious Club award and commented that without the work of Mark and his family our Club would not be the best Junior Club in the ECA!
This season Daniel was the captain of the 16Bs and played with the 4th XI outside of School duties. He was an influential contributor scoring 136 runs at 19.43 and taking 6 wickets at 21.33 in the 16Bs and scoring 132 runs at 26.4 and taking 3 wickets with the 4th XI.
Well done Daniel – thanks for your help and assistance.
